I have finished "Saga" and am started through it a second time. Hopefully this time it will be an easier read as I will not have to keep flipping to the back to the notes. I do find it ironic women cause a lot of chaos is this Volsung world. It is kind of a depressing story how everyone dies. As I was reading it I was trying to find the thesis of the story.
Almost finished reading "Saga of the Volsungs" the first time through. I am really confused!! It seems like it jumps around alot. I thought they were talking about different people with the same names and then they jump back. It is taking me a long time to get through the book because I have to keep checking the notes in the back. I am sure by the second or third time through I will be able to find the "thesis" for this book. As of right now I am a little lost in who is who and doing what!!
I have picked Viking Mythology for my final project. I started researching websites yesterday and found some very interesting ones. They are mainly college sites and thesis websites people have created. I decided on Mythology as I have always been interested in it and in high school we mainly studied Greek/Roman and touched very little on Viking myths. It will be a fun to see the similarities and differences between the two.
I have started researching some of the website that you put on the syllabus. One discovery I made is how important women were in this culture. My uninformed impressions were that men ran everything and women were lucky not to be killed. On the Discovery Times Channel they have been running a program "The Vikings". In one episode they had found a shipwreck with a man, woman, and small child. They were talking about how wealthy this woman was by the type of broach she was wearing. She also a comb made of antler. That gave me a better insight into the role of Viking women.
The BBC website does have some good information. It is like an encyclopedia. It seems to be an overview instead of a scholarly insight.

Just set up my "BLOG". Have read most of "Saga of the Volsungs" and am researching the websites you posted on the syllabus. I have also been watching "The Vikings" on the Discovery Times channel.
